Building and renovating

Here you will find information about lodging building applications and what you need to do before carrying out any building activity on your property.

Before you build any type of structure on your property, you need to submit your plans to Water Corporation. We need to check your plans to make sure our water, wastewater and drainage services are protected and can be easily accessed for maintenance and emergencies. We also need ensure that adequate connections will be available to service your property.

You must submit your plans to Water Corporation before your local council can grant a building permit*. You will need to submit your plans to us if you are building any of the following:

  • Shed
  • Verandah, patio or pergola
  • Retaining wall
  • Pool
  • House or extension

If you are using a building company, please ensure that they are submitting plans on your behalf.

You can lodge and manage all types of building applications and service requests through BuilderNet, our online lodgement system.

To lodge your application through BuilderNet you will need to attach electronic copies of your architectural floor plans and site plans (in PDF or JPEG format). Your building application approval and invoices will be sent to your email address.

Standard Water Corporation fees and charges apply for building applications and service requests.

*Under the Building Act 2011, only an authorised Permit Authority may approve building licence applications. This ensures that all statutory requirements for the lodgement of a permit are met, and the paperwork is complete. In most cases, this will be your local council.

How to locate our services and your plumbing fixtures

You can request plans displaying the location of Water Corporation services or internal plumbing fixtures through BuilderNet. The types of plans available are:

E-plans
