Water saving in hotels

We have developed water consumption benchmarks for Perth hotels which will indicate if your hotel is water efficient.

These benchmarks were compiled using information gathered from a review of water use in 13 Perth hotels.

How to save water in hotels

  • Conducting a water audit to get a better understanding of where water is used in your hotel to identify water saving opportunities.
  • Installing 3 star or better WELS rated shower heads with a flow rate of 9 litres or better per minute to all room and staff showers.
  • Restrict basin tap ware to 3 litres per minute and sink tap ware to 9 litres per minute via aerators, in line restrictors or new tap ware.
  • Installing WELS rated dual flush toilets to all rooms and staff areas.
  • Sub metering primary water consumers e.g. cooling tower, kitchen, swimming pool, irrigation to allow accurate separation and monitoring of water use.  This will assist in identifying and fixing any leaks immediately.
  • Educating staff through workshops or new staff inductions to be on the look out for leaks and to report them immediately.
  • Installing moisture sensors to irrigation systems to prevent over watering.
  • Educating guests about the importance of saving water by using the in-room video we have developed below. For a copy of this video please email water.efficiency@watercorporation.com.au or phone 9420 2644
