Relatively small savings in water use by households and businesses can make a significant contribution to reducing our overall water use.
To achieve this, sprinkler rosters are in place as part of our permanent water efficiency measures. This includes permanent winter sprinkler bans that are in effect from 1 June to 31 August each year.

These rosters apply to scheme water users as well as bore water users.
Scheme Water Users
Scheme water users in Perth, Mandurah and towns south of (and including) Kalbarri and Kalgoorlie can use their sprinklers either before 9am or after 6pm, two days per week based on the last digit of your house number. Where there is no house number, the lot number is to be used.
Towns north of (and excluding) Kalbarri and Kalgoorlie can use sprinklers every alternate day either before 9 am or after 6 pm based on the last digit of their house. Where there is no house number, the lot number is to be used.
Sprinkler bans during winter apply to scheme water users in Perth, Mandurah and some parts of the south west.

Bore Water Users
Garden bore users in Perth and Mandurah can only use their garden bore either before 9am or after 6pm, three days per week based on the last digit of your house number. Where there is no house number, the lot number is to be used.
Garden bore users in the rest of the state can use their bore before 9am or after 6pm.
The Department of Water administers a licensing system for other bore users (including local government, schools, sporting grounds and industry). Licences issued by the Department of Water specify the terms and conditions of using groundwater for uses other than garden bores.

Watering Exemptions
We appreciate that there are sometimes special circumstances for watering outdoors. For example, if you are establishing a new lawn or garden you may apply for an exemption in order for it to become fully established.
In such circumstances, households and businesses can apply for a watering exemption.

Reporting a breach
The Water Corporation has an active enforcement program which educates, warns and fines people for breaches of permanent water efficiency measures. The table below summaries enforcements issued in 2009/2010, across Western Australia.
